A few weeks ago, Brian Pounds, the senior pastor at the First Assembly of God in Vernon, Texas, was arrested for “sexually assaulting a child and delivering a controlled substance to a minor”.
In a way, the story got even worse.
Here’s what the story looked like before the new information was released: Pounds had secured a job cleaning an elderly house for a 15-year-old girl from the church. He also advised the girl and her family. He allegedly used his closeness to her to meet the girl privately – on several occasions – to rape her. (The affidavit stated that in one of these acts he “put both hands on her neck and strangled her.”) He also gave her methamphetamine.
How can it be more disturbing than that? Apparently, while talking to his wife on a phone call from prison, he let slip that there was another victim, and that if other charges were brought against him because of her, “I am a dead man”.
… Speaking to his wife from Wichita County Jail in Wichita Falls, Pounds spoke of another girl by first name and “deduced that if the extra charge was related to (her) it would be bad”, wrote a Texas Ranger in a probable cause affidavit.
“I know”, replied his wife, indicates the affidavit.
Law enforcement met the other alleged victim, who is now 23 years old. She told them one hell of a disturbing story:
The woman told the investigator that Pounds sexually assaulted her when she was 15. She described being groped by him in a “murder in the dark” game where children were hiding in the church with the lights turned off., indicates the affidavit.
During the first sexual assault, the woman said Pounds called her to church for a youth group activity, but that she was the only child there. Pounds told her to wait in the office until others arrived, then locked the door and forced her to perform sex acts, indicates the affidavit.
“These incidents continued for over two years performing at both the church and the Pounds residence in Vernon, ”the affidavit states.
Pounds once pointed a gun at her head in her office and threatened to kill her and himself if she told anyone., indicates the affidavit.
Pounds now faces three additional charges of child sexual assault.
Remember that this guy said last year that he graduated from Liberty University and has been married for 16 years. They have four children, the oldest of whom is 15 years old. The same age as his apparent victims.
The church pulled him out of their website and close their Facebook page, but there is no acknowledgment of his alleged crimes anywhere, making it even more difficult for other potential victims to come forward.
