Columbia branch of the Lorraine Public Library, 13824W.River route, Celebrated the opening of Story Walk.
Starting at the library and ending at nearby Columbia Township Park, Story Walk features framed photos of children’s fairy tales along the trail.
StoryWalk® is complete and ready for the general public to enjoy freely.
Due to persistent bad weather, the Story Walk® ribbon cut was canceled on July 12.
“We are honored to bring StoryWalk to Colombia through the legacy of a former librarian,” said Anastasia Diamond-Ortiz, Director of Public Library Systems, Lorain. “We hope families, caregivers, teachers and students enjoy reading stories together in beautiful Columbia Township Park.”
The park is located near Columbia West River Road and State Highway 82.
Currently on display is “Summer Song” by Kevin Henkes.
All of the stories chosen for StoryWalk are based on what is happening around the library, says branch manager John Gascott.
“All of the stories are about the seasons and other attributes of the park,” Gascot said. “Each book has its own theme, as well as its own artistic style. “
StoryWalk aims to appeal to readers of all ages, as well as anyone who accompanies libraries and parks.
“All of the stories are understandable to very young readers,” Gascot said. “They can read with parents, caregivers, grandparents or siblings. “
Gascot and other library staff are hopeful that StoryWalk will bring more attention to the library and the park and encourage children to start reading more often.
“The playing field was still there,” Gascot said. “But now there is something the kids can read too.”
