CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The best catch in a Cincinnati Reds game may not have come on the field, but it came from a baseball player – and a pretty good one.
Queen City’s biggest baseball star right now is 9-year-old Hayden Puma of Hamilton.
Hayden is the kid who pulled off the spectacular home run catch in Thursday’s game, jumped into a row of seats, slammed his shoulder against a metal armrest and came back with a smile. his face – bullet in the glove – as if it were nothing.
“Just as he got out of his bat,” Hayden recalls, “I looked up and took a few steps to my right and jumped over the bleachers in front of me and I caught the ball. ”
People came to Hayden with high fives and punches after the Great American Ball Park crowd cheered. Social media and SportsCenter quickly followed, earning her celebrity status overnight.
Frankly, the seats he and his mother sat on before the capture weren’t where they were meant to be. Hayden decided to move to the home run seats just in case. Kind of like the way he brought his glove, just in case.
Hayden can hit his own home runs. And like his favorite Reds player, Joey Votto, he too plays on first base.
The 9-year-old is no stranger to devil’s stunts, either. He says he broke his wrist earlier this year while jumping off a roof.
The cast of this stunt has since come off. The loot from this one will last longer.
“The Reds contacted us earlier today and shortly thereafter they said, ‘We’re going to ask Joey Votto to sign this ball,” ”said Hayden.
